Pavements will be noisy, and you won’t get a good fuel economy. A ride over 45 MPH would resemble Disneyland’s Thunder Mountain with little more comfort than your daily commute.
As long as you’re not driving on paved roads, you can’t do much better than these AT tires.
Nitto Ridge Grappler Mud Terrain
As one of the most sought-after tires in the off road aftermarket, the Grappler combines the benefits of a MT tire with an AT tire, but without any of the drawbacks! They are off road tires.
Nitto’s Ridge series is similar to its Terra and Trail series. These two tire lines focus more on off-roading, insane approaches, and sticky rubber compounds.
It should be a more dedicated “second set” of off-roading tires. Ridge is a more balanced and rounded version that can be used as an everyday tire.
It features a dynamic hybrid tread pattern that looks awesome. Ridge Grappler won’t offend anyone, but it won’t blow you away either.
The design was aesthetically pleasing and functional for all types of terrain. You may think chunky tread blocks, wonky tread compound, and aggressive tread design will give you a jolting and noisy ride, but that’s not the case.

Our primary concern is the traction and braking performance of this tire in the wet. People have mentioned that the traction is manageable in the rain.
Achilles Desert Hawk X-MT tires are low-cost, high-performance, all-terrain tires that provide excellent traction, grip, and handling on most roads. They can travel over 35,000 miles.
It may not match the road performance of the BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain TA KM2, Cooper Discoverer STT Pro, and a few other MT tires, however, this Achilles model is a solid alternative for those searching for a budget-friendly, all-terrain truck tire for everyday use.
Pit Bull Rocker
Pit Bull Tires has been a family-run business for 70 years. I can’t think of a better reason to choose these over any of the other all-terrain tires you may choose.
When a company calls its product something like “Pit Bull,” I usually cringe and expect it to be more bark than bite.
They designed the Rocker with an even more aggressive tread pattern years ago. Since then, they have improved on-road performance by taming it down.
The “Fang technology” adds extra strength to the side walls by increasing the support from the shoulder to the sidewall, almost touching the outer rim. Moreover, the staggered lugs reduce road tire noise, resulting in a smoother ride. Now you have another reason to blast some Skynyrd at stoplights…
In spite of the fact that the tires are made entirely in the United States, they do cost more, but they save jobs. PitBull Tire believes that if everyone looks out for each other, everyone wins (damn commies).
Gladiator X Comp M/T
It’s a knobby monster, the Gladiator X Comp M/T. You can’t help but be impressed by its rugged looks. Aside from its looks, this tire does a good job in rough terrain.
Aired down, the tread design performs well on rocks and in deeper mud. The knobs will add to the on-road noise, so don’t expect it to improve your MPG or your driving experience.
We don’t recommend using these off-road tires on the street due to the balancing issues. Over 30-40 MPH will likely make you want to drive into the nearest lake. The vibrations are that bad.
Ideally, you should take the wheels and tires to a wheel shop and have them balanced. You can use them as an extra set when you’re in the hills.
If you plan to stay on the dirt, switch them out. Store them in your garage for a rainy day. It’s that simple.
Yokohama Geolandar X-MT
AT tires by Yokohama are known more for on-road performance than off-road performance. For when you want to leave the pavement, the Japanese company also makes some pretty awesome and unique all-terrain tires.
With the all-new, uber-aggressive Geolandar X-MT extreme mud terrain tire, Yokohama has pulled out all the stops. The name says mud, but look at the tread block. It’s an all-around tire that can handle any terrain.
The tread pattern on the Geolandar is one of the most distinctive on this list. There is more of a pod structure than the more common diving streaks.
By eliminating smooth lines liquid can easily flow through, this type of tread breaks up any liquid build-up by creating chaotic rough breaks in the flow of water or mud.
Also, the tread pattern provides excellent grip and traction on rock crawlers while maintaining excellent on road performance, which is unheard of in tires.
Yokohama is building out its entire X-series line slowly, so stay tuned if your size isn’t available yet. All terrain tires have never been more versatile. That doesn’t mean they are lacking in any particular function either.
As a result, they are not as noisy as one would expect on the road, making them an excellent choice for everyday driving.
In off-roading, the sidewalls provide great traction when you’re driving in loose soil and climbing crazy angles, as well as shedding water and mud from the tire’s face.
Off road and on road, these tires may offer the best all-around performance, but they aren’t spectacular in one area alone. You will probably only be able to feel the differences if you drive your truck to its limits, which is not what most do.

It is one of the best for balanced performance while still being able to drive along the highway without blasting the radio or needing to visit the chiropractor later.
BF Goodrich Mud & Terrain T/A
The BF Goodrich Radial Mud & Terrain T/A tire has an aggressive tread pattern. This tire is primarily designed for off-road use.
On the highway, performance will be lacking, but that’s to be expected. If you’re looking for something unique, they have different lines than most tire treads. This certainly isn’t one of them.
This tire has wider grooves than most. The tires are designed to shed mud and water while maintaining traction. With its wider groove pattern, it can accommodate contact surface changes better than most other tires.
Ideally, these off-road tires would make a great spare set to carry when you want to only play in the mud. Or they can be installed on a rock crawler where durability is a must.
If you are looking for all-terrain tires that perform well in a variety of conditions, this tire is not for you. A set of off-road tires that can handle some serious terrain and get you out of a lot of trouble is what you need if you want them.
Nitto Mud Grappler
The Mud Grappler is my choice for the most aggressive all-terrain tire. The off road tires offer great traction on a variety of terrains, including dirt, rocky surfaces, snow, and deep mud.
The designer of these tires seems to have an unhealthy obsession with knives or lightning bolts. They are consistently among the best all-terrain tires.
Massive side-lugs and a three-ply polyester sidewall improve sidewall puncture protection when facing the most challenging off-road surface obstacles.
By utilizing state-of-the-art manufacturing processes, these tires are uniform and durable.
These are the best all terrain tires for 2022 if you only want a set of awesome looking off road tires to finish your latest rebuild. Even a smart car will look like it can handle the great outdoors with these tires.
