The automotive industry has evolved quite a bit over the past century. Today, cars are much more varied than they were in the early days, when they looked mostly like chariots. It doesn’t matter whether they’re small hatchbacks or large SUVs, they all have one thing in common.
It is important for a car to have tires because they are responsible for accelerating, braking, and steering. The set of tires a car has will largely depend on the conditions under which it is usually driven. There are several types of tires on the market, but touring tires are the most common.
Touring tires are the most well-rounded of the bunch when it comes to their properties. As well as providing decent performance, they also provide long treadwear and a comfortable ride. As there are many factors to consider, not all tires will be excellent in all areas. However, some may be better than others in certain areas.
Every manufacturer has at least one model, with some having more. Let’s take Goodyear as an example. American brand Assurance has produced a number of excellent touring models in the past, and the one I chose for today is one of them.
Goodyear has several options under the Assurance badge if you’ve browsed the tire market. The brand also offers the Assurance Outlast in addition to its standard options.
At a slightly lower price, this tire offers premium-like performance. Producing a cheaper tire means it won’t be as good as the real thing. According to the company, this is not the case, so in this review, I’ll examine the tire to see if it lives up to the Assurance name.
Goodyear Assurance Outlast features?
Although Goodyear’s Assurance family is its entry-level touring tire, the company still implemented a decent set of features.
As an all-season tire, the Assurance Outlast is designed with a rubber compound capable of performing in a variety of weather conditions. With this compound, Goodyear ensures that the tires will perform very well even at lower temperatures.
Additionally, rubber compounds work in conjunction with tread designs to improve traction and grip in less than ideal conditions. With these two features combined, the Assurance Outlast should have excellent traction on wet roads. Additionally, the performance should be usable in light snow conditions.
A damp road is one thing, but rain can cause problems for certain tires. In those conditions, the Assurance Outlast should perform pretty well. Water is moved away from the tread blocks through the circumferential and lateral grooves. As a result, aquaplaning resistance should be excellent.
What is its behavior on dry tarmac?
Even though it’s a touring tire, the Assurance Outlast delivers pretty good performance. However, it won’t wow you in any way.
The tire offers a lot of grip and traction, which is quite impressive. Even when you accelerate aggressively, the tire doesn’t slip. There is also good lateral grip, and the tire won’t understeer much. For regular driving, the performance is sufficient, but a tire like the Primacy A/S may provide a bit more.
The Assurance Outlast doesn’t lack safety. Even when pushed harder, the tire will remain controllable. The braking distances are not particularly short, but they are well above average.
The Assurance Outlast isn’t the most dynamically inclined tire. In terms of responsiveness and feedback, it’s okay for a touring tire.
What is its behavior on slippery and wet roads?
In rainy conditions, the Assurance Outlast performs well. Like before, it won’t be the best, but it should offer plenty of value.
With Goodyear’s tread and block design combined with the compound, the Assurance Outlast has pretty good traction in wet conditions. When you go into a corner at higher speeds, you can be sure that the tire will hold the line.
Despite the good braking distances, I don’t think they’re as good as I’d hoped.
Water is channeled away from the tire by the wide grooves and sipes in the tread design. Therefore, the Assurance Outlast is excellent at resisting aquaplaning.
What is its behavior on snow?
As an all-season tire, the Assurance Outlast isn’t great in snowy conditions, but it still performs well.
Performance over unpacked snow is acceptable in lighter conditions, but not exceptional. As long as you don’t push it too hard, you can drive the Assurance Outlast in these conditions. As a result, you will be able to get decent braking distances.
Over packed snow, the tire will have difficulty finding traction. It’s no surprise that the Assurance Outlast performs poorly on ice. The tire almost feels uncontrollable due to the lack of traction.
Does it feel comfortable and refined?
The Assurance Outlast is a good example of a touring tire that is comfortable and quiet.
Among the best features of the refinement are the comfort levels. Assurance Outlast glides over bumps with ease, making the ride very comfortable. Vibrations can be isolated pretty well and it provides a very relaxing experience.
In contrast, the noise levels leave something to be desired. Although the Assurance Outlast is relatively quiet, there are plenty of other tires that offer a quieter ride.
What is its off-roading behavior?
I wouldn’t recommend off-roading with the Assurance Outlast, but it’s not impossible.
Assurance Outlast isn’t designed to be driven on non-paved roads, so you can easily damage it. Over dirt roads, you may be able to get some acceptable performance from the tire if you are careful.
Can the Goodyear Assurance Outlast handle sporty driving?
In spite of the fact that the Assurance Outlast tire performs well on the road for most drivers, it’s not a tire meant for sporty driving.
The Assurance Outlast isn’t the most dynamic tire, which basically kills the fun. Any enthusiast won’t be too happy with the steering wheel’s lack of feedback and average responsiveness.
In terms of grip and traction, the story is similar. It delivers enough for everyday driving, but not if you want to push it too hard.
Warranty for Goodyear Assurance outlasts
Assurance Outlast is the best warranty in this category. Compared to some mid-range options like the Firestone All-Season, the tire has an 80,000-mile treadwear warranty.
As a budget-friendly alternative to a premium tire, Goodyear introduced the Assurance Outlast. Walmart sells the tire for around $75, making it a pretty affordable option.

In most cases, there is no reason to avoid the Assurance Outlast.
Assurance Outlast can deliver decent levels of grip and traction on both dry and wet surfaces. It will behave decently and provide a safe and controllable driving experience.
All-season tires perform well on snow-covered roads. Despite not replacing a proper winter tire, it provides decent performance in light conditions and unpacked snow. Winter tires are recommended if you need more than that.
The handling characteristics of the Assurance Outlast are probably its weakest point. The tire isn’t the worst in this regard, but its lack of feedback and not-so-responsive nature make it less dynamic than it could be.
In general, touring tires are well refined, and the Assurance Outlast is no exception. They can provide a plush driving experience due to their comfort levels. Noise levels in this category are relatively low, but not the lowest.
Price and warranty are two areas where the Assurance Outlast excels. Goodyear offers a treadwear warranty that is longer than some of the grand touring options I have previously discussed. The tire’s price is also quite affordable, making it an excellent value.
People who own passenger cars looking for an affordable and long-lasting touring tire with decent performance should consider the Assurance Outlast.
